Hi everyone,
I previously posted while I was searching for a new mower. I'm coming from a wired Husqvarna mower.
I’ve been testing the Mova Lidax Ultra on my newly laid lawn for the past week and wanted to share my experience and some specific issues I’m facing. Hopefully, the community or Mova devs can chime in.
My setup:
- Garden: Flat, new sod, curved borders with Ecolat edges (flush with grass, but soil level inside the border is currently 5cm lower).
- Mapping: Manual mapping performed by walking the perimeter.
- Settings: Height 4.5cm, UltraTrim 1.0 ON (3cm is a bit too short for my liking), Obstacle avoidance at 10cm, AI detection ON, Lidar obstacle detection OFF (to manage overhanging hedges).
The issues:
Although the Ecolat is flush with the grass, the mower often drifts 1 or 2 wheels over the edge into the border (5cm drop). It struggles to get back out, leading to "mower stuck" alerts even if it eventually escapes. The "mower stuck" error appears when it's driven 1-2m once it got out of the border.
90° corners and sharp corners are a struggle. It leaves too much grass. It would be great if the mower could approach corners head-on rather as an extra on top of just following the perimeter.
The U-turns are quite aggressive due to the wheel design, sometimes ripping out new grass. I'm worried about "track formation" if it follows the same pattern every day.
At the edges it currently leaves 5-10cm. I can live with this, but would love to optimize it.
Questions I'd have for Mova:
- Can the mower "learn" where it gets stuck based on map coordinates to avoid those spots next time?
- Is there a way to alternate mowing patterns (Day 1: Horizontal, Day 2: Vertical) to save the grass?
- What is the best way to map "cliff-like" borders (5cm drop) to prevent wheels from falling in? The user guide mentioned to take a bit more distance while mapping when there's an edge with 10cm difference.
Attached some photo's showing the tracks when it got stuck to give you an idea of the situation. It's the same across the whole garden.
